Build your first programme

This page builds one small programme in the portal, start to finish: a morning check-in about a knee, exercises three days a week, and a follow-up when the knee is much worse.

Watch each clip, then follow the steps under it with the portal open. Every portal editor in the clips is a real screenshot; the phones and the task list are drawn to match. To watch all six in one go, open the walkthrough on its own.

The portal has its own words for each piece. The steps use them, so you can find each one on screen.

In the portalWhat it is
AtomOne piece of a card: a question, a line of text, a picture
SequenceA card, made of atoms in order
JourneyThe plan that decides what arrives, and when
NodeOne step in a journey
ActionWhat a step does, such as sending a card
TransitionThe arrow to the next step, with an optional condition
CoachYour own staff member who looks after the person: a physio, nurse or coach

1. A question with four answers

The real Atom editor. The phone on the right previews the question as you build it.

In the portal: Settings, then Atoms.

  1. Open Settings, then Atoms, then Create.
  2. Name it Knee today and set Type to Single select.
  3. In Label, write the question the way you would ask it: How is your knee today?
  4. Under Options, add four answers: Better than yesterday, About the same, A bit worse and Much worse. Give each a Value (for example MUCH_WORSE). Add a Score if you plan to add answers up.
  5. Save.
  6. Make one more atom, type Text, for the line above the question: A quick check on your knee. One tap and you are done.

The same steps build a full questionnaire, such as KOOS-12: one atom per question.

2. A card that holds the question

The real Sequence editor: the card's settings, then its page of atoms.

In the portal: Sequences.

  1. Open Sequences, then Create. Name it Morning knee check-in and set Start button label to Check in.
  2. Under Pages, on page 1, use Add atom to add the text line, then Knee today. Drag them to change the order.
  3. Set Keep on home after submission to No, so the card leaves once it is answered.
  4. Save, then Publish.

3. A journey that sends the card each morning

The real journey builder, and the step that sends the card.

In the portal: Journeys.

  1. Open Journeys, then Create. Name it Knee rehab, weeks 1 to 4 and save. The builder then opens with Start and End.
  2. Use Add node to add a step called Weeks 1 to 4, and join Start to it.
  3. Open the step with the pencil above it. Choose Add action, then Deliver a sequence. Pick Morning knee check-in, with Surface To-do.
  4. Open Schedule. Choose Weekly, tick all seven days, set the time to 8:00 AM, and set Ends to After period, 4 weeks. To send it every day, choose Weekly and tick all seven days. The summary then reads Every day.
  5. Save the step, then Save and Publish the journey.

4. A rule that reads the answer

The real condition editor, and the step that raises a task and sends a message.

In the portal: Journeys, and Settings, then Task types.

  1. First make a task type called Follow up, under Settings, then Task types. The task takes its name and wording from it.
  2. Add a step called Watching the check-ins, and join Weeks 1 to 4 to it. This step has no actions. It waits there, and the transition you add next checks each answer.
  3. Add a step called Knee much worse. From Watching the check-ins, use Add transition to point at it.
  4. Give that transition a condition: Type Sequence response, Sequence Morning knee check-in, Aspect Answer: Knee today, then is, then Much worse.
  5. In Knee much worse, add two actions. Create a task, with Task type Follow up and Assign to Coach. Then Send a message, with the words the person will see in Chat. It goes automatically, in your name, so write it the way your team would.
  6. Add a transition from Knee much worse back to Watching the check-ins, so the next bad morning is caught too.
  7. Add a transition from Watching the check-ins to End, with the condition Time in step at least 4 weeks, so the programme finishes.
  8. Save and Publish the journey.

5. Exercises three days a week

The real schedule panel on a delivery.

In the portal: Sequences and Journeys.

  1. Make a second card called Knee exercises, the same way as step 2. This time set Keep on home after submission to Yes.
  2. Open Weeks 1 to 4 and add another Deliver a sequence action for Knee exercises, Surface To-do.
  3. Set its schedule to Weekly, days Mon, Wed and Fri, 8:00 AM, starting Immediately and ending After period, 4 weeks. The summary line then reads Weekly on Mon, Wed, Fri, at 8am, for 4 weeks.
  4. Save the step, then Save and Publish the journey.

6. Coach assigns a journey

A person's page: the Journeys tab assigns a journey, the Responses tab a single card.

In the portal: Users.

  1. Open Users, then the person.
  2. On the Journeys tab, choose Create, pick Knee rehab, weeks 1 to 4, and save.
  3. To send one card instead, the Responses tab's Create assigns a single sequence.

A coach can do this, not only an admin. Nothing can be assigned until the person has given consent in the app. Until they do, their page shows No consent.

To try it yourself, join the app as a test person first, with your cohort's sign-up link. How a participant joins shows how.

To start everybody in a group on the journey, set it as a cohort's Default journeys instead. See Cohorts.
